Hurricane Sandy in Nigeria?

Not to make light of Hurricane Sandy and its effect in New York, but my younger sister Nkechi sent this to my phone and i had to share it with you guys.......JCGold

Imagine say a 'Hurricane Akpors' is heading for Naija (Nigeria) in 3 weeks. First and foremost;

1. Prophet T.B Joshua will prophesy the hurricane.

2. The State Governors will hold a press conference advicing the people of the states to remain calm as government is working hard to see how they can tackle the situation.

3. National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will grant an interview on Channels TV and AIT saying that they are well trained and prepared to handle the crisis. That they are untop of the Situation.

4. The Federal Government will wait for the Hurricane to first land and wipe out States then;

- Hold a day of National Mourning and Prayers and order the flag be flown at half mast.
- Visit the disaster location for a first hand assessment of the damage.
- Visit the survivors camp and share relief material (Mosquito nets, rice and Indomie)
- Set up a committee to investigate the Hurricane and see how we can prevent future hurricanes from visiting Nigeria.
- Release billions of Naira (on Paper) for disaster management.
- Commend the State Governors, NEMA, Red Cross and other emergency services unit for their quick response.

Belgium-based writer wins $100,000 literature prize

Chika Unigwe
Belgium-based Nigerian writer, Chika Unigwe, got a big break on Thursday when she was named winner of the Nigeria Prize for Literature.
Her novel, On Black Sister’s Street, beat the two others shortlisted for the prize established in 2004 by the Nigeria LNG.
These are Only a Canvas by Olusola Olugbesan and Onaedo: The Blacksmith’s Daughter by Ngozi Achebe, a niece to foremost writer, Prof. Chinua Achebe.
With the victory, Unigwe, who had won the BBC Short Story Competition in 2004, has become $100,000 richer, following in the footsteps of Adeleke Adeyemi, who won it last year.

This has to stop

Lagos Traffic Law: Policemen brutalise, strip okada rider

The stripped okada rider
Some policemen reportedly took the enforcement of the Lagos Traffic Law to the extreme on Wednesday as they allegedly beat an unidentified okada rider and stripped him in Akoka, Lagos.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the victim was caught while riding at the junction of University Road and St. Finbarr’s College Road in Akoka. He stated that the man was plying the route oblivious that plain-clothes policemen had laid ambush in a van with registration number NPF9544B, in the area.
The eyewitness said immediately the policemen saw the okada rider, they pounced on him, beat him up and later asked him to take all his clothes off.

It hurts me to post stories like this, cause this is an abuse of authority when individuals whom are trained to maintain peace and order in the country, obviously misinterpret their role/job functions and go ahead to abuse and dehumanize the very citizens they are to protect.
If indeed he broke the traffic law, where is it stipulated in Nigeria's constitution, that traffic law offenders should be treated in like manner?

Jonathan, Alison-Madueke and the Ribadu report

President Goodluck Jonathan

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan will likely perform another visual and verbal symbolism today when some of the committees set up in the wake of the fuel subsidy crisis submit their reports.  Jonathan’s demand for the reports of the probe panels on the oil industry and his vow to prosecute anyone found to have engaged in corrupt practices can hardly excite the public that sees a disturbing pattern in his administration’s handling of serious fraud.
His track record simply does not excite much hope that anything beyond tokenism will follow his sabre-rattling. As usual, the President will likely renew his pledge to Nigerians that no person or organisation guilty of any infraction will be spared and go on to set up another committee to verify and reconcile the findings of the committees. But the leaked allegations have stung so badly. The President must take urgent steps to eradicate the rot.
It is evident that the president’s hand was forced by the leakage of the report of the Nuhu Ribadu-led Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force to Reuters, which exposed once again, the staggering corruption in our oil and gas industry. The other panels are an 11-man panel on governance and controls in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, another to review operations of the four state-owned refineries and one on the stalled Petroleum Industry Bill.

Abandoned octogenarian sisters face ejection from one-room apartment

Abandoned octogenarian sisters

The expectation of most parents is that when they attain certain ages that they can no longer fend for themselves, their children will be there to provide the necessary support.
But for aged siblings- Ibijoke Apena and Janeth Eruwayo- who are living in a dingy one-room apartment, their case is a different kettle of fish. They have been abandoned by their children and relations.
At 8, Amusan Street, Rogo, along Iju-Ishaga Road, Lagos State, where they live, the two sisters have become nuisance to other tenants. Though they are from Jakpa in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, they have spent more than 60 years outside Delta. Their condition of living is simply appalling as where they defecate, urinate and do so many things is where they eat and sleep.
The odour oozing out of their room has become a source of concern to co-tenants who now avoid them like plague.

(Reuters) - New York City and the sodden Northeast began an arduous journey back to normal on Wednesday after mammoth storm Sandy killed at least 64 people in a rampage that swamped coastal cities and cut power to millions.
Financial markets reopened with the New York Stock Exchange running on generator power after the first weather-related two-day closure since an 1888 blizzard. Packed buses took commuters to work with New York's subway system halted after seawater flooded its tunnels.

Aero Contractor's Passenger Prompts Intervention

Aero Aircraft Passenger’s Prompt Intervention Upon Seeing Fuel Leakage From Aircraft Averts Likely Disaster

Aero Contractors, one of the few airlines still flying the local routes in Nigeria, might have had an accident save for a passenger’s prompt intervention.
At about 2:30 pm Monday, the Aero aircraft was set to leave the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja Lagos, when one of the passengers who sat close to the left wing of the craft spotted gas leaking from one of the valves conveying gas to the part called ‘ailerons’ which connects the wings of the aircraft to ensure stability during take-off and landing.

Reading between the lines

 H_Erigha _NG_.jpeg

Reading between the lines in any relationship simply means knowing and understanding what the heck your partner is just too scared or shy or self-centered or shady to tell you in plain spoken words.

Ladies you have got to read between the lines when:

  • He is always in a meeting when you call.
  • He just bought a new car but does not have enough phone credit to call you.
  • His phone contact Vic sends him a "had fun last night would love to see you again"  message.
  • Your name always rings a bell but never a beat.
  • He loses his wallet the same day he was supposed to take you shopping.
  • He says he loves you but his mum won't let  him marry any woman from your village.
  • The same day you let him know you can't find your period, he can't find his phone and moves out of his house.
