Microsoft Windows 8, Surface Tablet
Firm sales numbers for Microsoft Corp's Windows 8 and its new Surface tablet will not be available for three months, but it may be clear long before then if it has a hit on its hands.
"We can definitely gauge it by chatter," said Emily Chan, an analyst at Bernstein Research. "There is a slight learning curve, so I don't think we will see that big pop that iPad saw."
Microsoft is desperate for the new-look, touch-friendly Windows 8 to grip customers' imaginations, as it looks to regain ground lost to Apple Inc and Google Inc in mobile computing and shake up the moribund PC market.

Modern Christianity
With all the recent negative attention (read here) the church has been receiving, we the Christians can no longer feign ignorance to the devices of the devil. The truth be told, i have always been of the personal opinion that Christianity in Nigeria was still quite shallow and that the big Nigerian christian Churches were not doing enough in terms of charitable services to the society relative to the amount of funds accessible to them . Aside from the recent norm of Churches owing schools, hospitals and media outfits e.t.c. I would expect that they should be involved in large scale charity projects.

Apple unwraps mini-iPad to take on Amazon, Google
Apple Inc took the wraps off an 8-inch tablet on Tuesday in its biggest product move since the debut of the iPad two years ago, launching a smaller version of the gadget into a market staked out by Amazon.com Inc and Google Inc.
The 7.9 inch "iPad mini" marks Apple's first foray into the smaller-tablet segment. Apple also announced a fourth-generation full-sized iPad with improvements in graphics and processing speeds, just two days before Microsoft is due to show off its own "Surface" tablet.

Singer Adele has baby boy: British media
British singer Adele has given birth to a baby boy, British media reported. There was no statement on her official website and her spokesman said "no comment" on Monday in reply to a request for confirmation.
The 24-year-old, whose album "21" topped charts around the world and turned her into one of pop music's biggest stars, announced she was expecting a child with her partner Simon Konecki in June.
In August she took to Twitter to quash rumors that the couple were married. "I'm not married...Zzzzzzz" she wrote. Adele has been in the headlines in recent weeks for singing the theme tune to the latest James Bond movie "Skyfall". She also co-wrote the track with collaborator Paul Epworth.
BRT buses destroyed as Okada riders protest in Lagos
Commercial motorcyclists popularly known as “okada riders” this afternoon marched through some majors roads in Lagos State protesting the recent law banning the riders from operating on about 500 roads in Lagos State.
Daily Post gathered that the protesters obstructed vehicular movements in some parts of Lagos, and attacked some government-owned Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) buses at Onipanu thereby making passengers to trek frustratingly to their destinations.
The Chairman of the Motorcycle owners and Operators in Lagos State, Tijani Perkis, stated that the union would meet with Governor Babatunde Fashola to relax the order banning okada from operating on about 500 roads in Lagos State.“I have nothing to say now. But I will be meeting with the governor tomorrow and after our meeting I may talk to the press,” he said.
UCI strips Armstrong of Tour wins
Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned for life on Monday after the International Cycling Union (UCI) ratified the United States Anti-Doping Agency's (USADA) sanctions against the American.
The long-awaited decision has left cycling facing its "greatest crisis" according to UCI president Pat McQuaid and has destroyed Armstrong's last hope of clearing his name."Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling. I don’t know what to say. The Bible says, “He makes all things beautiful in His own time.” When you are down at the rock bottom, that is when God will lift you up. People have died in their marriages, some have lost one part or the other, some are still married, they have spent 30, 40 years in their marriage. You have to make the best out of your situation and move up. I have so much I want to do, I don’t have to wallow in self pity. That is just an aspect of me. Marriage does not define anybody. Our daughter is the most important thing. We have to make sure she is happy, she gets the best.
About your failed marriage, did he ever beat you?
No. He never did. I can’t just say why it failed. Marriage does not define anybody. Once it doesn’t work, we move on, although it hurts.

Pope names seven new saints, seeks to revive faith
VATICAN CITY – Pope Benedict XVI added seven more saints onto the roster of Catholic role models on Sunday, saying their example would strengthen the church it tries to rekindle the faith in places where it's lagging. Two of them were Americans: Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American saint from the U.S. and Mother Marianne Cope, a 19th century Franciscan nun who cared for leprosy patients in Hawaii.
In his homily, Benedict praised each of the seven new saints as examples for the entire church, calling Cope a "shining" example for Catholics and Kateri an inspiration to indigenous faithful across North America.
"With heroic courage they spent their lives in total consecration to the Lord and in the generous service of their brethren," he said.
Pilgrims from around the world attended the Mass, which started with the head of the Vatican's saint-making office reading aloud each of the names of the seven new saints in Latin, drawing cheers from the crowd.
The other new saints are: Jacques Berthieu, a 19th century French Jesuit who was killed by rebels in Madagascar, where he had worked as a missionary; Giovanni Battista Piamarta, an Italian who founded a religious order in 1900 and established a Catholic printing and publishing house in his native Brescia; Carmen Salles Y Barangueras, a Spanish nun who founded a religious order to educate children in 1892; and Anna Schaeffer, a 19th century German lay woman who became a model for the sick and suffering after she fell into a boiler and badly burned her legs. The wounds never healed, causing her constant pain.
Former Senator George McGovern, '72 Democratic presidential nominee, dies at 90
George McGovern, the 1972 Democratic presidential nominee, has died after a short stay in a South Dakota hospice, after what his family termed a “combination of medical conditions.”
He was 90 years old.
A 22-year veteran of the House and Senate from South Dakota, McGovern was one of the most storied American politicians of the 20th century. McGovern was best known for his outspoken opposition to the Vietnam War and advocacy for agricultural and world hunger issues.
McGovern lost the 1972 presidential election to the incumbent President Richard Nixon in one of the biggest landslides in American history, winning only Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. Nixon later resigned from the presidency in 1974 due to the Watergate scandal.

Lions, other animals starved to death in Benue Zoo
Even as Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam has been importing pigs into the state, animals in the popular Makurdi Zoological Garden are being starved to death.
A lion was reported to have died of starvation in the zoo last week. Sunday Trust gathered that most of the animals kept in the state government-owned zoo located inside the Benue State University are dying due to starvation.
Only two weeks ago, the remaining two cheetahs died, one chimpanzee, a tortoise and others also died reducing the number of animals drastically.
The lioness which finally succumbed to death on Wednesday after battling with severe hunger left alone its male companion in the lair. They were said to be both feeding on 14kg of beef twice or thrice in a week.
“The meal was quite insufficient for them. Our animals are dying unless something urgent is done, the entire creatures will go extinct in this zoo,” a staff who declined to give his name cried out.
How pathetic

Pastor Oyedepo accused of exploiting British worshippers
A church run by a controversial multi-millionaire African preacher has been accused of ‘cynical exploitation’ after its British branch received £16.7 million in donations from followers who were told that God would give them riches in return.
Followers are ferried in double-decker shuttle buses to the church, handed slips inviting them to make debit card payments, and are even told obeying the ministry’s teachings will make them immune from illness.
Today’s Mail on Sunday revelations about the Winners’ Chapel movement have prompted the Charity Commission to review the charitable status of the church – one of the fastest-growing in the UK.
Winners’ Chapel is part of a worldwide empire of evangelical ministries run by Nigeria’s wealthiest preacher David Oyedepo, who has an estimated £93 million fortune, a fleet of private jets and a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
Dubbed ‘The Pastorpreneur’, he was accused earlier this year of slapping the face of a young woman he said was a witch. The assault case was struck out but is being appealed.
Last night, Labour MP Paul Flynn said Winners’ Chapel was cynically exploiting supporters. ‘They [Winners’ Chapel] are making clearly spurious claims and it seems to be a cynical exploitation of the gullible,’ he said.
Referring to the slapping incident, Mr Flynn added: ‘What is also alarming is the reported violence and the lack of respect for the status of women. It’s taking us back to a previous age of ignorance and prejudice that we all thought the church had escaped.’

- Congregants are handed a payment slip requesting payments using cheque, cash or debit card when they enter London’s Winners’ Chapel.
- Donations to the ministry in England almost doubled from £2.21 million to £4.37 million between 2006 and 2010.
- Mr Oyedepo’s superchurch in Nigeria received £794,000 or 73 per cent of the charitable donations paid out by the British Winners’ Chapel between 2007 and 2010. This was despite claims in Africa that he is enriching himself at the expense of his devotees.
- The registered charity has spent £6.81 million on evangelism and ‘praise, worship and fellowship’.
- The church’s ‘Joseph Squad’ preaches in British prisons and has a weekly broadcast named ‘Liberation Hour’ on satellite and cable TV here.
An undercover Mail on Sunday reporter attended Sunday services at Winners’ Chapel’s ‘London HQ’ in Dartford, Kent, which attracts 1,000 congregants – chiefly African and Caribbean immigrants. It is run like ‘a business conference’ by Mr Oyedepo’s son, David Oyedepo Jnr. Packed buses deliver singing worshippers from South-East London, Essex and Kent to the huge auditorium.
A Charity Commission spokesman said: ‘The Charity Commission is currently assessing what, if any, regulatory role there is to play with regard to the complaints made against the World Mission Agency. It is important to clarify that this does not constitute an investigation at this stage.’

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha Punches Governor Obi’s Aide Over A Chair
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Saturday punched a protocol officer who refused to allow him sit on a chair reserved for the Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, at the 80th birthday celebration of former vice president, Chief Alex Ekwueme, in Enugu.
The incident occurred 20 minutes before most of the invited guests arrived.
The Couch was reserved for the host Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime and Peter Obi. The Deputy Governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, represented Chime who is still out of the country.
The protocol officer, Mr. Ifeanyi Onukuba, who works with Obi, was shocked at Okorocha’s action and before he could recover from it, a police officer attached to the Bomb Disposal Unit in Anambra State, Mr. Felix Alumona, pushed Okorocha when he was removing the tag bearing Obi’s name from the seat.
Our correspondent observed that Okorocha’s Aide de Camp, Gabriel Onu, immediately pounced on Alumona, hitting and tearing his uniform, while other security details attached to the Imo governor joined in the scuffle.
Sensing that the matter was beginning to attract people, Okorocha quickly waded in, saying, “Hey, please stop the fight! Let us not fight over an ordinary seat. I will share the seat with Peter Obi.”
Minutes after the fracas, Okorocha’s aides where heard grumbling saying, “Why is it that anywhere we go, they always reserve a special seat for Obi. Is Okorocha not the leader of Ndigbo?”
When Obi arrived, he squeezed himself in the couch, sitting between Onyebuchi and Okorocha.

Boko Haram Commander Arrested By JTF In Senator's Home
One of the Wanted Boko HaramCommanders, Shuaibu Mohammed Bama has been arrested at the private residence of Senator Ahmed Zanna representing Borno Central Senatorial District.
Bama was arrested yesterday when the Joint Task Force JTF Operating in Borno State storm the house of the serving Senator who has been under serious watch by security forces for allegedly romancing and sponsoring the Boko Haram sect.
These was contained in a press statement Issued to reporters in Maiduguri by the Spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Sagir Musa.
According to Musa the JTF intensified its cordon and search operation ” when suspected Boko Haram sect launched multiple attacks at different locations of the JTF troops in Sinimari and Lagos street of Gwange general area and that all the attacks were repelled by JTF”.
He continued ” the JTF was able to arrest one notorious Boko Haram Commander in a serving Senator’s House along Damboa road GRA”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared incumbent governor and flagbearer of Labour Party, winner of the October 20 governorship election in Ondo state.
By this declaration, Dr Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, 57, now has a fresh mandate to govern the state for another four years.
In the figures declared by INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Biyi Daramola of Federal University of Technology, Akure, Mimiko scored a total of 260, 199 votes.
Altogether, 13 political parties participated in the widely-monitored elections which was generally peaceful although there were reports of few cases of intimidation and ballot snatching.
By this declaration, Dr Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, 57, now has a fresh mandate to govern the state for another four years.

EFCC arrests official of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria with N218m at airport
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has apprehended an official of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Mr. Akinyele Adetula, for trying to launder $1.4m (N218m).
The arrest came less than a month after the commission arrested a 24-year old man, Mr. Abubakar Sheriff, at the same airport with $7m (N1.1bn).
Sunday PUNCH learnt that the suspect was arrested at Murtala Mohammed Airport on Saturday.
According the Head of Operations, EFCC, Mr. Iliyasu Kwarbai, the suspect was able to pass through Nigeria Customs Service and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency security checks because he was wearing his identity card and therefore did not draw any suspicion.
He said, “The suspect is a FAAN security guard. He wore his tag and was thus able to move freely in the airport without drawing suspicion. He was carrying a bag and it went through the scanner.
“The suspect passed through NDLEA and Customs and he went to the waiting area; but he started making phone calls instead of proceeding to board his flight. We accosted him and noticed that his bag was heavy. “When we searched him, we saw the large sum of money, which he said did not belong to him and that he was only trying to telephone the owner who never showed up.”
The EFCC authorities said the suspect was given the money by one Mr. Ifeanyi Urama, a bureau de change operator who also doubles as clearing and forwarding agent. Urama, it was learnt, was recently granted bail by the EFCC after he was arrested with $996,000 (N155m).
Urama was alleged to have given Adetula the money, which belonged to a yet-to-be-identified person and Adetula was to help the unknown person to get the money past security.
Adetula, who claims to have worked for FAAN for over five years, said he was promised N10,000 if he could successfully get past security.
The indigene of Ondo State said this was his first time of committing such a crime.

“The suspect passed through NDLEA and Customs and he went to the waiting area; but he started making phone calls instead of proceeding to board his flight. We accosted him and noticed that his bag was heavy. “When we searched him, we saw the large sum of money, which he said did not belong to him and that he was only trying to telephone the owner who never showed up.”
The EFCC authorities said the suspect was given the money by one Mr. Ifeanyi Urama, a bureau de change operator who also doubles as clearing and forwarding agent. Urama, it was learnt, was recently granted bail by the EFCC after he was arrested with $996,000 (N155m).
Urama was alleged to have given Adetula the money, which belonged to a yet-to-be-identified person and Adetula was to help the unknown person to get the money past security.
Adetula, who claims to have worked for FAAN for over five years, said he was promised N10,000 if he could successfully get past security.
The indigene of Ondo State said this was his first time of committing such a crime.

Michael Lohan was NOT ALONE in orchestrating an emergency intervention on Lindsay Friday -- there are emails proving that her ENTIRE team, including her lawyers and her manager ... were 100% on board.
The emails are between Michael, Evan Hainey (LiLo's manager) Dave Feldman (entertainment lawyer) and Shawn Holley (criminal defense lawyer). The emails were sent between Sept. 23rd and Oct. 18th (the day before Michael's intervention).
Michael emailed Evan and Shawn on Sept. 23rd, claiming he had been informed by several people Lindsay was "drinking between a bottle and a bottle and a half of vodka per day" adding, "I have seen the empty bottles and even cocaine in her room at Chateau."
Michael continues, "She is AGAIN, taking pills to keep her up and to sleep (adderall)!! I even know that she is and was drinking during work as far back as Liz and Dick!"
Michael then pleads, "I am asking you to PLEASE PLEASE find a way to get her to LA toward the end of the first week of October or the beginning of the second so we can do an intervention and FINALLY end this madness!"
LiLo's manager Evan responds the same day to Michael and Shawn, "I am hearing the same things." Evan continues, Lindsay will fly back to L.A. Oct 15th -- and they should plan an intervention for that week.
Lindsay's lawyer Shawn responds unequivocally, "Let's do it."
On Oct. 12th Michael and LiLo's entertainment lawyer, Dave, sent multiple emails to each other -- planning a conference call with a well-known interventionist, named Earl Hightower.
Then on Oct. 18th (the day before the intervention) Michael sent an email to Evan ... revealing a plan to confront LiLo at her Bev Hills home.
According to text messages from Oct 19th, which we have also seen, the group decided Michael would confront LiLo FIRST ... and everyone else would show up afterwards.
The emergency intervention floundered -- Michael showed up to Lindsay's pad, but she turned him away and called the cops ... which put a kabosh on the whole thing.

4-year-old Hailey Roser was all smiles during the 5 minute pow wow backstage with the Biebs before his concert in Milwaukee tonight.
Hailey's parents started the "Healing Hailey" campaign on Twitter and Facebook after she was diagnosed with a brain tumor in August -- and a few weeks ago one of the campaign's followers called in to TMZ Live to spread the word.
I pray the African in particular our Nigerian celebrities pick a thing or two from their foreign counterparts. They should get committed and am not talking about occasional acts of charity like a casual visit to an orphanage, but fully spearhead at least one charitable cause, constantly raising awareness about it, hosting events to raise funds for it and investing their time and resources to champion it. Such sacrificial acts of giving, opens up the doors of heaven and attracts abundant good measure and prosperity.

Christina Aguilera's Rubenesque physique could pay off in a huuuuge way -- she's been offered $3 MILLION to be the face of a dating website for "big and beautiful" women.
The person behind the offer is former "America's Next Top Model" winner Whitney Thompson -- the first plus-size model to even win the show.
Whitney now runs TheBigandTheBeautiful.com -- and fired off a letter to Aguilera, saying she's extremely interested locking down Christina as the spokesperson for the website, which is "specifically designed for women with curves."
As part of the deal, Aguilera would agree to at least one TV commercial, one radio commercial, two photo shoots, and four public appearances. She also wants Christina to sing a jingle for the website.
Christina has previously said she's proud of her new "curves," but it's unclear yet if she's too proud to take the money.

Katy Perry performed a heart-warming duet of her hit "Firework" with 11-year-old Jodi DiPiazza, an autistic musical prodigy from Rochelle Park, New Jersey, during the taping for this year's "Night of Too Many Stars," which airs tonight at 8pm on Comedy Central.
The duet stole the show at the annual charity event staged by the cable network, which will help raise funds to help people living with autism -- like Jodi, who was diagnosed shortly before she turned two-years-old. The girl's parents were once told she might never be able to communicate with them through speaking, according to MSN.com, but now she studies at the Mannes College of Music Prep in New York and is "thriving," according to London's Daily Mail.

KEEP LEARNING
A small mind cannot see the big picture because it is always encumbered with the cares of the moment. Those with such minds don't ever bother to venture or attempt unchartered regions.
This is what happens when you refuse to grow in knowledge; when you fail to develop capacity.
In life we must be committed to a lifelong learning agenda because with the passing of each day, whatever it is we knew becomes outdated faster than we can imagine.
And no man reigns with obselete information or knowledge.
You lose revelance and significance when you are not constantly updating your knowledge. The Bible says "Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly." Pro 13:16..................Bola Obutola
