PIC OF THE DAY

Hmm does anyone get it?

SNC00043
SNC00045
I came across this and thought i should share.

Happy Thanksgiving,

I hope you have had a terrific weekend. I really am blessed with the kind of work that I do with my clients & team, but I still enjoy a long weekend with family & friends. There truly is so much to be thankful for.

As I was running, I came upon this:

Fish can fly.

This time of the year, the salmon run the Bowmanville creek. Fish literally jump between 2-5 feet, to get above the dam & travel the rest of the creek. I have heard about this, but haven ever seen fish do this before. I was amazed at the strength and the willingness of the salmon to jump again & again in their attempt to move upstream.

After my run, I spoke with these three families. I shared with them the "Fish can fly" principle. When a species has such a strong will for change, they perform incredible feats to ensure a better future. When a person or family decides they really really want to make a change, they are swimming upstream as a way to deal with family support, stress, financial challenges & confidence issues.

Research shows that about 10% of people will choose to fly. As I spoke with these families I could tell that some were willing to go to extraordinary lengths to achieve their goals. There were things they hadn't thought were possible, but were willing to do to move their situation forward.

If fish really can fly, you really can change careers, go back to school, take on that new leadership role or achieve that life goal you have always wanted.

It's up to you.

Running upstream, along the road with you!

TOON UP THE DAY

Did you know

Chinese novelist, Mo Yan, has been named the winner of the 2012 edition of the Nobel Prize for Literature by the Swedish Academy

The Swedish Academy praised his work which “with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary”.
The 57-year-old is the 109th recipient of the prestigious prize, which was given last year to Swedish poet Tomas Transtroemer.
Presented by the Nobel Foundation, the award, only given to living writers, is worth 8 million krona (£741,000).
Nigeria’s foremost writer, Chinua Achebe has been in contention for the most coveted prize in the literary world but has failed to pick the award since his first book hit the book shelves.

Other writers including Haruki Murakami, William Trevor, Milan Kundera, Amos Oz, Philip Roth, Alice Munro, Thomas Pynchon, Ian McEwan, Salman Rushdie and Bob Dylan were also in the race to pick the prize.

Shell on trial in Netherlands over pollution in Nigeria
Shell broke the law by not repairing leaks that destroyed the lands of Niger Delta farmers, a Dutch court heard in a case that could set a precedent for global environmental responsibility.
The four Nigerian farmers, backed by lobby group Friends of the Earth, have brought the Anglo-Dutch oil giant into court thousands of miles away from their homes with a civil suit that could open the door for hundreds of similar cases.

“Shell knew for a long time that the pipeline was damaged but didn’t do anything. They could have stopped the leaks,” lawyer Channa Samkalden told the court yesterday, accusing Shell of having “violated its legal obligations”.
The case relates to damage caused in 2005 and was initially filed in 2008, demanding that Royal Dutch Shell should clean up the mess, repair and maintain defective pipelines to prevent further damage and pay out compensation. In a landmark ruling, the Dutch judiciary in 2009 declared itself competent to try the case despite protests from Shell that its Nigerian subsidiary was solely legally responsible for any damage.
“I’m here because of the oil leakage that happened in my community in the Shell facilities and destroyed my 47 fish ponds”, Friday Alfred Akpan, from the village of Ikot Ada Udo, told the AFP news agency before heading into court.

“The destruction of the fish ponds caused serious damage to me and my family because I make use of that fish to take care of myself and my children.”
“We believe that the claims are unsubstantiated,” Allard Castelein, Shell’s Vice President Environment, said at the court. “The spills that happened in the years between 2004 and 2007 all happened as the consequence of illegal theft and sabotage.” “We agreed there was a spill, it wasn’t our fault, we cleaned up nevertheless and that’s what happened,” Castelein said.

Aluu Killings: As the story unfolds

UNIPORT Students Murder: Nigerian Policemen Present During Lynching

UNIPORT Students Murder: Nigerian Policemen Present During Lynching
Chinwe Biringa, mother of Chiadika, one of the four undergraduate students of theUniversity of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, who were lynched on Friday for allegedly stealing laptops and BlackBerry phones in Aluu community has said that policemen were present during the killings.

Chinwe who spoke in a telephone interview during a public affairs programme on Channels Television on Wednesday said she was disappointed with the way and manner the policemen looked on and did nothing to stop the gruesome murder of the four boys.
She said, “Eyewitnesses accounts revealed that policemen were at the scene of the incident. Besides, policemen at the police station confirmed to one of the bereaved parents who visited them that policemen were there.
“And the explanation they gave was that they were overwhelmed by the crowd and that they had insufficient bullets in their guns and all that thrash to confront the crowd.
“But those people were only with sticks not with guns. If they really wanted to work they would have worked. If they had done what the Joint Task Force did by firing warning shots into the air when they wanted to collect the corpses, things wouldn’t have gone awry.”
While insisting that the four murdered boys were not robbers, Chinwe said, “We don’t have security in this country. We don’t just have and our children and wards are all over the country. We are only living by God’s grace everyday, because this can happen to anybody any day.

“God knows best because nothing stops Him from doing something extraordinary to save them. But may God judge all those who had a hand in the killings.”

Kano-Bound IRS Airlines Plane Collides With Truck At Lagos Airport

Kano-Bound IRS Airlines Plane Collides With Truck At Lagos Airport
A Kano-bound IRS Airlines plane departing the Lagos airport on Wednesday morning collided with an abandoned truck beside the taxiway, forcing the pilot to cancel the flight. The wing of the Fokker-100 aircraft, it was learnt, collided with the truck which fell into a drainage on Tuesday. The truck belongs to a Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria contractor. The 91 passengers on board the flight were later disembarked and put in another plane which left for Kano three hours later. A statement by the Managing Director of IRS, Mr. Yemi Dada, confirmed the incident. The statement quoted Dada as saying

“This morning our flight LVB 3306 taxied out on a Lagos to Kano flight with a transit stop at Abuja. The aircraft taxied out at 7:48am with 91 passengers. While taxing on the taxi way the Captain observed a FAAN truck in a ditch. There were no marshals around it neither was there any marking to indicate that it encroached into the taxi way. There was no Notice To Air Men (NOTAM) issued to that effect as well.”He added, “The captain continued on his taxi and the wing tip hit a protrusion from the truck towards the rear of the truck. This made the captain request a return to ramp from the tower and also notify the tower of the incident and the danger posed by the truck.“The passengers were disembarked and accommodated in another aircraft which departed Lagos at 10:15am. The incident has been reported to Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and we await the clearance of the NCAA to effect repairs and return the aircraft to service.”

Biden comes out swinging at debate, clashes with Ryan

Republican vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden (R) chat at the conclusion of the U.S. vice presidential debate in Danville, Kentucky, October 11, 2012. REUTERS-Michael Reynolds-POOL

Vice President Joe Biden leaped to the attack against Republican challenger Paul Ryan in a lively debate on Thursday, aggressively defending the administration's economic and foreign policies in a bid to regain momentum in the White House race. Biden was looking for a Democratic rebound after President Barack Obama's poor debate performance last week. But the younger and less experienced Ryan held his own in a series of testy exchanges. "With all due respect, that is a bunch of malarkey," Biden said when Ryan accused the White House of projecting an image of American weakness to the world. First estimates of who prevailed at the debate in Kentucky were split. A CBS News survey of undecided voters showed Biden as the winner by a margin of 50 percent to 31 percent, while a CNN poll of debate watchers scored Ryan as the victor by 48 percent to 44 percent.
The vice presidential candidates in the November 6 election frequently interrupted each other, talking at the same time and sometimes staring at each other in disbelief.

Wedding Budget

Finally the seventh step not to take, to have a STRESS FREE " I DO" DAY.

7. Do not over shoot your budget.

This piece of information is hinged on the fact, that all brides know that they must have a wedding budget. If you didn't, now am telling you before you start any wedding arrangements, in fact after you get engaged that is the formal acceptance to get married, the first thing you need to do, is to draw up a budget of how much you and your partner intend to spend on the wedding.
This cannot be over emphasized, even if you don't have the exact amount you need for the wedding, and like the typical African society you are expecting family members and friends to chip in to cover some expenses, just indicate on the budget who exactly is doing what, and leave it at that (but don't fail to raise the money and keep in one corner, my dear you never know the arm of flesh might fail thee). This budget will best guide financial discussions between you and your vendors/suppliers.

However it is one thing to make a budget, and it is another to keep to the budget. My take is that you should not unduly run off your budget. You know why? If you overshoot the budget and spend all you and your partners savings on an elaborate wedding, to maybe satisfy your ego, friends and possibly family, then i dare say you just shot yourself on the leg.

You see after the wedding, as the sun sets, when the festivities are over everyone, friends and family alike will all go home, yeah they might sing praises about how wonderful your wedding was, see how big her cake was, aaahhh the decor was glorious, abeg did you see her gown, the food was divine, P-square nailed it with that song during the bridal dance e.t.c. and like the male peacock, your pride and head will be swollen, but still after all said and done, they will leave and you too will go home.
After the day is done, what happens next? Is the question every bride must ask herself. The answer "Life must go on". You have to move in with your partner into a home (am talking to the ladies now), which has to be furnished comfortably for you, your partner and your coming kids, a home that you must build, cherish and be proud of. Let's not forget that basic expenses like food, light, water, medical, phone, rent, transportation, clothing e.t.c will double cause there are two of you, and when you have kids, well be rest assured that it will quadruple. In LESSON SIX, i also explained why you should not bank or rely on monies to be made from the wedding, besides what happens if no one gives you an envelope.

My advice is create a wedding budget, stick to your budget and don't fail to keep some money aside for life after the wedding.

1005_kendra-wilkinson_andson2

Cops and firefighters rushed to the L.A. home of Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson this week ... after her 2-year-old son mysteriously passed out -- TMZ has learned.
Law enforcement sources tell us, authorities responded to a 911 call from Kendra's home this Wednesday around 5:00 PM -- and when they arrived, her son Hank Baskett IV was just coming to.
We're told the son was transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, and released shortly after.

According to sources, the doctor told Kendra her son had suffered loss of consciousness due to overheating ... from running around the house ... and it's pretty common in children, especially in hot weather.
Don't worry, this story has a happy ending -- the kid made a complete recovery and is now doing just fine.

EKO BALOGUN

Over the weekend, i was at the Eko Balogun Market, Lagos Marina, Lagos State Nigeria. I have a couple of events to attend towards the end of the year, so i decided to give myself a head start and shop for some materials, before the normal hristmas holiday price hike starts, and to also allow time for the tailoring of the materials.

To the ladies out there, i always advise between the months of October and mid November, get done with your local purchases of clothes and accessories for the rest of the year. You would be amazed at how much you could save.
Mothers could also stock up on housekeeping and dry food supplies for the rest of the year.

Here are the pics i took on that day, i must add that unfortunately it was raining cats and dogs that day, so am still not done shopping. Fortunately i was still able to purchase some items see for yourself.

LESSON SIX

Today i have the sixth item you must not do to have a STRESS FREE 'I DO' DAY.

6. DON'T OWE THE WEDDING VENDORS. If possible pay them off at least a day before the wedding.

From Wikipedia : A vendor, or a supplier, is a term that means anyone who provides goods or services to a company or individuals.
Typical wedding vendors are;  Food catering outfits, Bridal shops, decor, cake artistry, hair and make up e.t.c the list could go on and on dependent on the size of the wedding.

Where possible, pay up all your wedding vendors, and if there is any issue of distrust (make they no carry your money run), then keep the money secluded and handy for quick accessibility, for i assure you even before the end of the wedding reception, these vendors will come asking for their money.
The last thing you want, is to have to prematurely leave your own wedding reception, stressing on how and where to pay whatever money, deducting, balancing and double checking your wedding budget, or worse have an angry or impatient vendor creating a scene at your reception hall or house.

Don't fall for the excuse that monies made after the wedding could be used to settle any debt, i always advice intending brides to keep the wedding budget in line with their purse. Any money received after the wedding from guests, relations and well wishers should be welcomed as an unexpected surprise, which could offset the honeymoon bills, or absorb any financial strain that might occur after the wedding.

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY Reduced to Skin & Bones

Matthew McConaughey looks skinny after weight loss.
Looking even more emaciated and gaunt than before, a frail Matthew McConaughey was barely recognizable as he -- with the help of his mother Kay -- left a church in Austin this weekend.

The normally buff and shirtless 42-year-old is wasting away to play Ron Woodruff in the movie "The Dallas Buyer's Club," the true story of a man who contracted HIV through drug use in the '80s and has to smuggle life-saving medications from Mexico.

Here comes the bod!
The Osbournes all went to Hawaii for Jack's wedding over the weekend, where Kelly Osbourneshowed off her slim physique in a neon lime green bikini.
The 27-year-old "Fashion Police" host looked great as she splashed around in the pool with her brother and her boyfriend Matthew Mosshart.
The family was in the tropical locale for Jack's wedding ceremony with baby mama Lisa Stelly, which reportedly went down yesterday.
While Jack is staying mum on the nuptials (he tweeted they were there for mom Sharon Osbourne's 60th birthday), Hello! magazine confirmed the news this morning.
The magazine reports that they wed in front of 48 friends and family, including Sharon, Ozzy and Kelly -- who was a bridesmaid.

Lady Gaga Vomits Repeatedly Onstage, Keeps Performing

Lady Gaga vomited on stage in Barcelona over the weekend, following in Justin Bieber’s in-concert puking footstepsIn fact, Gaga took the hot new pop music trend to a new level, throwing up three times in short succession during her performance of “Edge of Glory.” Like a pro, Mother Monster refused to let a little upchuck keep her down.

Jay-Z Rides NYC Subway Ball So Hard

1008_jayz_splash

Multi-millionaire rap icon Jay-Z made his most shocking purchase ever this weekend in NYC -- a METROCARD -- riding the subway to Brooklyn with the common folk ... moments before his big concert at the Barclays Center.

Jay and his crew took the "R" train from Canal Street in Manhattan to Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn on Saturday to mark his final show at the new Nets stadium before basketball season kicks off this month.
Jeezy lucked out big time too -- because he actually found a seat next to a non-raving non-homeless person.

Beyonce Performs ‘Diva’ & ‘Crazy In Love’ At The Barclays

Last night, Queen Bey came off of maternity leave just in time to slaughter the stage for Jay-z’s final show at the Barclays Center. Dressed in a Brooklyn Net’s cap, she came out talking-that-talk to ‘Diva’ before giving the crowd a mean stare down for at least 30 seconds. She then burst out laughing while saying,  ‘What’s up Brooklyn? I’m so glad to be here’.
‘Crazy In Love’ was next on the agenda.  Jay appeared on stage a few seconds behind the time to deliver his verse, but made up for it later when he tapped Beyonce’s booty on cue (circa 2006 BET Awards). To add to the dramatics, Beyonce dropped the mic and strutted off stage at the end of the performance.
The night wasn’t quite over for Bigga as the two hit the stage together again to close out the show with ‘Forever Young’.

Keyshia Cole To Premiere New Show ‘Family First’

Keyshia Cole has come a long way since BET premiered her first reality show ‘The Way It Is’. The BET series, named after her first album, followed her journey as a 21 year old singer who was blowing up in her career while dealing with personal struggles within her family behind the scenes.  Now, six years later, she’s starring in a new show, which explores her life as a mother and wife, while gearing up for the release of her fifth studio album, ‘Woman To Woman’.
And it’s all going down in just two more days..
On the new show, that premieres this coming Tuesday (October 9th), fans can expect to get a peek inside of Keyshia’s wedding that took place in Hawaii, as well as a few appearances by Keyshia Cole’s biological mother ‘Frankie’. Keyshia recently revealed that she has made amends with her mom and Frankie is now working on remaining clean while being a good grandmother to Keyshia’s son DJ:
She’s on a couple of episodes of my new show. She’s been in rehab for four months now, I’m really excited about that! She’s been around hanging with DJ. DJ loves her so I’m really excited about that. It’s really a blessing to be able to experience this with my mom. I’m really sadden that my other sisters haven’t been able to be around her while she’s been sober because man, its a beautiful thing. it is a beautiful thing.

Ini Edo Allegedly Threatens Hubby Philip Ehiagwina
If what gossip mongers are revealing to Nigeriafilms is anything to go by, then all may not be too well in the marriage of reportedly pregnant Nollywood actress, Ini Edo and her husband of four years, Philip Ehiagwina.
What an olofofo, who claimed to be close to Ini Edo divulged to Nigeriafilms seems very disturbing. It has always been believed that US-based Philip is allegedly being on the bills of Ini Edo. Some gossip merchants swore that he (Philip) depends on the sultry actress to survive. The latest that we are hearing about the couple, who attended a fashion show in the US together recently, is that there is an alleged crack in their four years old marriage.

According to a bird in the know, Philip allegedly called the attention of his wife that his people (family members) are complaining about news they hear about her. As the tale bearer told us, Ini reportedly replied her handsome hubby to leave her alone and let her be.
You think she stopped there? The amebor said Ini Edo then reportedly told Philip to walk out of the marriage if he is tired of her and the news his people are hearing about her. We also learnt from another tale bearer that Philip reportedly called some of Ini's friends to inform them of what his wife told him. The olofofo then said that their marriage is just like a time bomb now waiting to explode.

Aluu Killings

Four young University of Port Harcourt students (all in their early 20s) were yesterday tortured  and burnt alive by indigenes of Aluu community, in Rivers State in hazy circumstances.
According to accounts, five students went to the community to carry some sort of cult activity when they were accosted and arrested at around 5.30am by vigilante group in the community that has a recent history of armed robberies.
One of the five escaped, while the four others were taken before the community leaders who passed judgment on them, after which they were tortured and burnt to death.
These guys-identified as Ugonna, Chidiaka and Llyod-are said to be 200 level students of UniPort who went to steal in the community in the wee hours of the morning, but met their water loo when somehow, the members of the community alerted each and were able to apprehend them before they could escape. It is reported that during the operation, a villager was shot, and this further angered members of the community leading to the eventual untimely death of the alleged robbers.

Students of the University of Port Harcourt are attacking an area (Aluu) in Rivers State, where five students were brutally murdered last Friday.
The students are reportedly on rampage, burning markets houses and attacking the community members some of who watched and filmed the horrendous killing of the students with their phones.
The community members took the laws into their hands to serve jungle justice, maybe they are been paid back with same coins.

We gathered that some of the murderers have fled the village after the ugly incident, however, according to reports reaching us, one of the murderers has been arrested. I can confirm to you guys that the Chief of Aluu community has been arrested and is in police custody. Some people I have been in touch with got the info from the Rivers State Commissioner of Police. There are also reports that at least 12 others have been arrested and more arrests will be made in the coming days.
Meanwhile, one of their killers, with 100% assurance was paraded by soldiers and flogged.

Father Of UNIPORT Student Burnt Alive Speaks OutFather Of UNIPORT Student Burnt Alive Speaks Out

He is well-to-do, a top Senior Manager at the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He can afford to buy any type of telephone handset or laptop for any of his four sons. But this morning when Onyema Biringa (shown in photo), who is based in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State in South-South Nigeria, woke up, it was to prepare for the burial of his first son, Chiadikobi, who was lynched few days ago by a mob for allegedly stealing handsets and laptops.
The bereaved father, who alongside his family  still reeling from shock, is seeking divine intervention over the cruel fate that has befallen his beloved son. “I have handed over the murderers to God,” he told a relative last night.

This barbaric should be condemned on all grounds, this sort of jungle justice could lead to the death of misidentified innocent victims, even if they were cultist, they should have been handed over to the police. Inasmuch as many may have lost faith in our justice and legal system, but as long as we remain citizens of Nigeria, we must obey the law of the land in maintaining peace and order. Such acts are no longer acceptable.

Murder of 4 UNIPORT students: An exclusive story behind their death

Since the incident, many people have advocated for the immediate arrest of those behind the heinous act and possibly charge them if found guilty. While some have continued to advocate for death sentence, others advocate for life imprisonment.
However,  investigation reveals that none of the four murdered students was involved in robbery or any kind of pilfering. Our correspondent spoke with an anonymous colleague of the late Llyod and Ugo whom he said were aspiring musicians and his colleagues.
It was gathered from the source that Ugo and Lloyd were cousins. Someone was indebted to Ugo around the community and had vowed not to pay. Ugo who was popularly known as Tipsy had gone to meet with a fearless University guy (name-withheld) to help them track the debtor who had been on the run. The guy who was feared by many in the school had accepted to accompany his friends to get the debtor tracked down and get his own percentage of the money. They were joined by their room mate, Chidiaka. On their way to the place, they met one of their friends, Tekena, who knew nothing about the plan, and he joined, just for the hype as it’s normal with young boys of juvenile age.
They were actually 5 that got to the debtor’s compound. Unknown to the other four, the “Confra” guy who was contracted to intimidate the debtor just to get the money paid went with a gun .When they got to the guy’s house around 12am, fight ensued, as the debtor confronted them. A next door neighbour, a woman started shouting on top of her voice, that they were thieves, attracting other bad boys around the areas, whom they said were mainly “vickins”, rival cult group of the one on contract. They swung into action by tipping the vigilantee who confronted the boys, referring to them as thieves. At the process of beating the boys, and while they were trying to explain, the fifth ‘guy’,the cultist brought out his gun to scare the people, and he escaped, leaving the rest four at the mercy of the villagers.
The explanation they tried to give fell on the community’s deaf ears as the people insisted that they must be killed. Another close friend of Ugo and Lloyd had reacted by calling on the president to take action against those behind the murder of the four students. The young man who had pleaded that his identity be kept secret said: “Mr President those 4 boys who were killed at Aluu near Uniport were my young friends. I was their mentor. Two of them were promising rappers and singers. I am forwarding their work ironically titled “ain’t no love in the
city” http://hitplayonline.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/17-heart-of-the-city-ft-yetty-big-l-and-tipsy.mp3″.
