The Great Shephard

This is a shout out to all sundry do not miss out on today's appointment with the great shepherd at the Redemption Camp Km 46 Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. It promises to be an exciting time with the King of Kings. See you there.

Where is TBN?

I was recently going through my cable network television and I could not find TBN Trinity Broadcasting Network instead I see Faith Africa. That truly got me worried as I wondered if TBN had gone "caput" off air.

After an internet search, I was so excited to read on the DSTV website that TBN had not been replaced, rather the network had rebranded in their own words, "This name change and branding strategy is a direct result of the Board's innovative approach to keep Christian television fresh and relevant in today's society".

This move does make a lot of sense considering the limited exposure of the youth to the bible doctrines, not many might understand the meaning of the word Trinity and how the "Trinity" is a reflection of the divine nature of God. Faith on the other hand is something that every one identifies with, as it travails the core of man's existence, the desire for relevance, a higher purpose for man's existence here on earth other than just evolution.

The word Faith cuts across every denomination as it is the backbone of every religion be it Faith in; Oneself, Science or  a Supreme being. The Faith Broadcasting Network professes Faith in the one true God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. The one who is more than able to do what he says he will do. To him be all the glory now and forever more. Amen.

Maid beats child

The heart of man is desperately wicked, why would a human being with blood flowing through their veins melt out such an action against an innocent helpless child. Unbelieveable!

Two things either she must have undergone such treatment as a child growing up or she was being maltreated by the owners of the house and consequently melted out her anger and frustration on the child. Whatever the case may be however is no justification for her actions and I hope she faces the full brunt of the law.

Who is being entertained?

Reading through excerpts from a T-magazine interview with Jaden and Willow Smith, I can not help but wonder what kids born in the entertainment industry are exposed to.

A simplistic question like What have you been reading?

Brought up rather the unique answers of "Quantum physics Osho" for the 14 year old Willow Smith and “The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life and ancient texts; things that can’t be pre-dated" for the 16-year old Jaden Smith.

It is Well

Life can cough up a good number of challenges and it may seem like higher forces are working against you. During those moments remember that you have a God who loves you he confirms this in his word in Psalm 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Stay faithful to his word, pray ceaselessly and trust that the Lord is able to deliver you from every affliction.

Dealing with challenges makes life interesting, and overcoming them makes life meaningful do not lose faith, hold on it is well.

Who was the Angel

I was at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) this weekend. I did not want to drive, I used the mass transit and while on route from Lekki to Obalende both located in Lagos State Nigeria.
At a bus stop in Lekki, I stopped and entered a green and white intra city transit bus and as we moved along the bus attendant or conductor requested that passengers pay the bus fare.

I had not used public transport along that route before and was not quite sure how much to pay, so I watched closely to see what amounts others paid as a yard stick for my fare.  A middle-aged man was on my left and another was at my right. The gentleman on my left offered the bus conductor a hundred (#100) naira note and made it quite clear that was all he was paying for the trip, after a very heated argument,  the conductor grudgingly collected the money.

Hoping to replicate what just took place, I quickly brought out my own hundred naira note and offered it to the conductor. Unfortunately the bus conductor refused to be taken twice and screamed that my fare was one hundred and fifty naira (#150) and not a hundred naira (#100).

Naija here we go again

I have a list of very events that have occurred in Nigeria that reflects the disheartening unique state of affairs in Nigeria.

First Stephen Keshi who was relieved of his job on October 16, a day after the Super Eagles defeated Sudan 3-1 in Abuja, by the Amaju Pinnick-led board of the NFF (who re-called former coach Shaibu Amodu in an interim capacity) but has been asked to return to his post as part of reconciliatory moves in the Nigeria Football Federation as ordered by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Acting- Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, Thursday, ordered the removal of security aides attached to Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal,Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in view of his recent defection by the Right Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the , from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bright like a naked diamond

Can't help themselves: Miley Cyrus and Rihanna showed off their busts in risque, barely-there frocks at the star-studded amfAR Inspiration Gala in Los Angeles on Wednesday

I find it quite disheartening to see the music industry slowly turn into a sex industry, where nudity is celebrated even more than talent.
Where artists feel the need to consistently expose their body parts even at charity events like the amfAR The American Foundation for Aids Research inspiration gala held at Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Marriage

I was at church (The Lord's Cedar Parish RCCG) yesterday and the ministerial topic was marriage and the frequent sources of disagreements in marriages.

Marriage was defined as a covenant or an agreement ordained by God and recognized by the law, between two different individuals male and female to come together and live as one.

It was indeed a lively debate in church on Tuesday Digging Deep and a lot of the congregation offered a lot of contributions and like one of the speakers emphasized there is no one super formula for a successful relationship, marriage is a work in progress as both parties must remain committed to making the relationship happy and fulfilling.

Below is a summary of other key points that were raised during the program.

Husbands for Sale

I hope I am not breaking any copyright rules but my younger sister sent me this and I had to share.

HUSBANDS FOR SALE !
A store that sells husbands has just opened in Zimbabwe where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates.
  • You may visit the store ONLY ONCE!
  • There are six floors and the attributes of the men increases as the shopper ascends the flights.
Finally here comes the catch!!!!
  • You may choose any man from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a floor but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

All hail the Queen

Two of the many reasons why I write this blog

One cause am pretty much alone must of the time so this is an avenue for interaction though one sided.

Two I like to think that am building up on my writing skills maybe one of these days I would write a book that could earn me international recognition like Chimamanda, yeah big dreams.

Anyway I watch epic Nigerian movies from time to time to kill boredom and today I chose to acknowledge Queen Nwokoye not because I know her personally and no I have not been paid do this but I can not help but admire her acting career path.

Why? Because see she has been able to carve out a niche for herself within the Nigeria Movie Industry and is in control of her game.

Not Cool

Dear Diary,

I ain't feeling so cool today because I just found out that Sunday is my birthday and the one person that I would love to spend the day with is travelling out of the country.

This love thing can be so annoying, there are a million other things and people I could spend the day with but here I am whinning over the one thing I can not have. Anyway its a lost cause so all am thinking of now is what do I give God as a birthday gift.

You see someone once testified in church that he asked for a specific something from God for his birthday and on that day he received the divine gift. Trust me I love presents so I latched on to that testimony and every year I ask God for a birthday gift.

However I have never quite received a divine package on my bday so am thinking if I rather than ask instead gave God a gift on my birthday then perhaps on his birthday he would shock me with something beautiful. I pray for further direction from the Holy Spirit and that your week progresses successfully. Amen.

Cheers

JCO.

Who?

A piece of very exciting news I heard today
  • WHO officially declares Nigeria Ebola-free
It is indeed a miracle that for the first time in ages the African giant responded commensurately to a social threat. Usually scarce actions of citizens enlightenment/ awareness and government feedback were consistently provided across the nation throughout the Ebola crises.
Not forgetting the mercies of God and the prayers of the Nigeria Christians all of which propelled the country out of the health crises.

If we are to learn anything from this experience, it is that when we as Nigerians unite and speak with one voice over an issue, victory is sure.
Like Martin Luther King I have a dream when Nigerians will stand up to isolate and treat every element of corruption that rears its ugly head anywhere within the country.

Nkem Happy Birthday

Special shout out to the man who has managed to lock me down for the past ten years. Feels like yesterday we just started out two young kids in love. All we had were each other and our dreams for the future.

Dreams which the good Lord blessed into reality, yes I had my kids, yes I did get my masters degree and yes we moved into our own house. The tears, sacrifices, arguments and compromises continue to yield beautiful beginnings.

My point is nothing good comes easy, times might seem so difficult and it feels like a no win suitation, stay and choke from frustration or give it all up and walk away. When you quit you give up on not only your partner but God that put you both together.

Hold on and trust that everything will work for your good, like a house built on a solid foundation stay vigilant, prayerful, committed and faithful knowing that after the rains come sunshine. Look deeper cause there's a rainbow peeping between those clouds.

Dealing with a teenage son

First of all let me just set the record straight that non of my kids are teenagers yet. However recently my younger brother moved in with me and these past few days, what a ride!!!!!! I am at least twenty (20) years older, married quite early, left my family in Port-Harcourt and moved to Lagos when he was about sevenish (7) so we never really developed a deep brother/sister relationship.

So come the 16th of October am staring at this young man whose basic character composition am still trying to figure out giving me an attitude simply because I asked him to do the dishes. Lets get it straight, at my house I don't have house maids catering to my every whims, so I expect everyone to chip in and do their bit of house chores but this guy thinks that just because he wears pants, that exempts him from chores bordered within the kitchen walls. You can bet your girl made it clear to him that ain't happening so get it together dude.

BAFTA Awards

These are my favorites from the recently concluded Bafta awards starting with my two favorite couples of the night.

Hollywood darlings: Angelina, 38, locked arms with her handsome 50-year-old husband, while sporting an open-buttoned collar and loose bow tie as they joined a star-studded crowd at London's Royal Opera HousePower couple: Chiwetel and Sari made for a glamorous twosome as they put on an amorous display on the red carpet

Power couples: Brad Pitt & Angelina(above) Jolie and Chiwetel Ejifor & Sari Mercer (below)

The special ladies of the night.

Green goddess: Looking utterly radiant as she smouldered in front of the camera, the talented 12 Years A Slave star's simple, yet elegant, strapless frock featured a gold band around the middle to accentuate her slim waist
Lupita Nyong'o dazzled in a striking emerald green silk fishtail-hem gown. The dress pattern I like but the fabric seems to crease badly.
