OFALA MASQUERADE DISPLAY
I was going through my phone this evening, and i saw these pictures i took some time ago, at the Ofala Festival of Igwe Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State Nigeria, Afica. This is an annual or bi-annual(depending on the community or town) event, where the traditional head/leader (in my town Nnobi referred to as the Igwe) of the town, gets to meet and greet his subjects (indigenes of the community), entertain his friends, visitors and well wishers, and exhibit his prowess as a leader.
It is part of our Igbo heritage, and is normally held during the holiday seasons like Christmas.This festival is marked by the display of masquerades (people in masks and traditional costumes), from different groups and age grades within the community.
My humble self and my elder sister Ify went for the event, and i tell you it was crazy. These masquerades were dancing, jumping, shouting and even chasing people around, all in the bid to prove their might and instill fear in the hearts of spectators (all in good faith of course). There was a lot of scampering and hiding, I even got a swipe on my head towards the end of the day, and i later found out that i wasn't supposed to look the masquerade in its face, i ought to have kept my head down, in other words i got hit for being too bold. Besides that it was a fun day and i got to take pictures of my favorite masquerades, and here they are for your viewing pleasure.
Please forgive the amateur pictures, in between the running and hiding i didn't get to focus on my picture quality.
And this is my big sister IFY hmm, she is going to kill me for this.

Taraba deputy governor removed
The Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Sanni Abubakar Danladi, has been removed from office by the state House of Assembly.
Danladi was removed on Thursday afternoon sequel to an impeachment notice served on him a few weeks back.
The Assembly described his sin as “gross misconduct.”
Danladi accepted some of the allegations leveled against him but is in court contesting the move to remove him from office.

Mo Ibrahim Special Award for Desmond Tutu
Mo Ibrahim Foundation has ,Wednesday, announced a one-off extraordinary award to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, in recognition of his lifelong commitment to speaking truth to power.
In a statement, today, the Foundation said, ” the Award will be presented personally to Archbishop Tutu later this year in Dakar during the annual Ibrahim Discussion Forum, which focuses this year on youth, a topic close to the Archbishop’s heart. The Award is accompanied by a grant of US$ 1 million.”
Archbishop Desmond Tutu has been a pillar of strength for his country South Africa and Africa as a whole, so he deserves every form of recognition for his accomplishments. You think one day i could possibly get to meet him?

Today is day 5 of my series SEVEN DON'TS TO HAVING A STRESS FREE "I DO" DAY, here is Number 5.
5. Don't underestimate the services of a planner/co-ordinator.
Here here don't get me wrong, i know how expensive it could be to get a professional wedding planner, but i need you to relax and catch my drift.
If you can't afford one, you must not use a professional wedding planner, all you have to do is get any relative of yours, one you know that is trustworthy, accountable, smart and organized, and bestow upon him/her the responsibility of being your Wedding Co-ordinator. He/she should be relatively close to the family, and must be kept up to date on all wedding arrangements.
Most importantly, ensure that you inform all family members, in-laws and vendors (service providers like caterer, decorator e.t.c), that this person is in charge.

Wedding Planner-Is a professional who assists with the design, planning and management of a client's wedding.
Co-ordinator- Someone whose tasks is to see that works goes harmoniously.
It takes away tonnes of stress, when you have someone who knows your budget and knows the line-up of activities/programme scheduled for the wedding. Such a person will supervise all activities on the day of the wedding, ensure that individuals are properly executing their job functions as agreed, attend to any matters arising during the course of the day, personally attend to top family members and friends and also terminate any action/activity that contradicts your desires for the wedding. In other words this person has got your back, male or female (though women are better in this sort of things).
On the other hand, if you can afford the services of a professional wedding planner well and good, the point is you won't need to have to leave your chair to attend to any issue, or frown and raise your voice to pass across any dissatisfaction, Ohhh No!
All you have to do is to beckon to your co-ordinator and he/she immediately attends to the problem. Yes your wedding planner/ co-ordinator would handle all the stress and drama normally associated with any public event especially weddings, and all you have to do is sit back, relax, cherish the moment and just enjoy being the center of attention.

SNAPP
Finally on a lighter mood, i have to tell you guys about this phenomena.
Firstly am not really an alcohol person, you see in my mouth, on my taste buds lie a simple equation Alcohol=Bitter, so normally if i have to drink i go for the flavored drinks like Smirroff Ice, or Gordon Spark.
But there is this new one (just recently launched) that i discovered, actually my hubby discovered it.
On this fateful day or night, a Friday night my hubby Ben being back from an outing, was telling me quite excitedly about this new drink he had with his friends at a bar. Asides from knowing that i would like it, he also mentioned that he loved this drink because it didn't leave any alcohol stench on his breath, imagine so i wouldn't know when he has had a drink or two, hmm men!
Anyway back to the point two days later he came home with a carton of SNAPP and i fell in love. Its apple flavor sends a tingle down the throat and it simply feels good and on a good day just one bottle sends me to sleep like a baby.
No Guinness Nigeria PLC is not paying me for this article, this is just me telling you whats up?

Today is kind of drag cause the news of the killing of innocent students at Federal Polytechnic Mubi in Adamawa State got Nigerians all angry and depressed.
On my way to pick up the kids from school today, and i overheard on the radio, a caller questioning the unity of Nigeria in regards the recent killings, he pleaded the cause of the murdered students who must have come from different parts of the country believing in one Nigeria.
Personally i tell you its getting quite obvious that Northern Nigeria is no longer safe, and as the saying goes "if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen".
Then there is this issue of Justice Mohammed Idris of the Lagos High Court giving Mallam Sanusi an ultimatum to make public the whereabouts of the cash and properties recovered from Cecelia Ibru, and how much of it was returned to Oceanic Bank.
Perhaps Mallam Sanusi has woken up the angry giant with his now forgone introduction of the N5000 bill, so now he has to do the two step, lets see how its all going to play out. That is if the case doesn't suffer a premature death, whatever happened to the Femi Otedola and Farouk Lawal case?Dead and buried......

Mubi Students Masaccre: Government Imposes 24-Hour Curfew - Very Graphic Photos
Since news of the October 1 overnight attack on Federal Polytechnic, Mubi in Adamawa State, in Northern Nigeria broke out, the same questions ring out: Who are the men who perpetrated the act? For which reason? What will the government do to secure the lives of Nigerians?
This latest killing coincided with the marking of the 52nd year of Nigeria’s Independence.
As at the time of filing in this report, several students are fleeing Mubi while many are stranded. Report say the school has been shut indefinitely as the Adamawa State government has also imposed a 24-hour curfew
Adamawa State Police Command spokesman, Ibrahim Mohammed, DSP, confirmed that 25 dead bodies have so far been deposited at the General hospital, Mubi. He also stated that the figure is likely to rise as security agents continue to mop up the incident area.
God in heaven, for how long are we going to keep hearing things like this, why should any religion, tribe, group or sect of people justify the shedding of blood. This is unacceptable!!!!
Onitsha Human Cargo: Nigerian Refugees In Their Own Country
The Onitsha South Local Government Area Secretariat Annex, in Anambra State, was built for administrative purposes. Today, it's occupied quite alright, but not by workers alone. One of the halls in the complex has been turned into a refugee camp.
In the hall are men, women and babies, who were brought to Onitsha by agents of the Lagos State government and figuratively dumped on Anambra State government some weeks ago. Arrested in Lagos and "deported" to Anambra, these people are now refugees in their land. They have been given temporary accommodation and being fed by Anambra State government.
And their security is in the hands of operatives of Nigerian Civil Defence Corps (NCDC). Residents of the commercial city of Onitsha, especially those in Upper Iweka, woke up a few weeks ago to behold about 600 strange persons. It was gathered that they were brought in the dead of the night by a trailer, whose departure point was not known immediately.
Qatar won't take Boeing 787s until engine fault fixed
Qatar Airways will not take delivery of Boeing Co's (BA.N) 787 Dreamliner until an engine defect is modified, its chief executive said on Tuesday.Qatar has placed orders for 60 Dreamliners - 30 firm and an option for 30 more - and selected General Electric Co's (GE.N) new-generation GEnx engine for the aircraft.
"The 787 has an engine with new technology. However, there has been a material defect in the engine which now needs replacement and inspection," Akbar Al-Baker said after a speech in the Qatari capital Doha. "We have informed Boeing that we will not take delivery until the 787s have the new modified shaft," said Baker.
Nigerian businessmen and companies should learn from international deals like this and always demand the best products from their suppliers and stop the usage, production and importation of sub standard goods.

4. Don't pick a stylist or makeup artist with an over inflated ego or an aggressive personality.
Your stylists hair and make up, are very crucial on the day of the wedding, since they are there to work on your look and help you look your finest. But as we all know, true beauty comes from within, so the last thing you want on the day of your wedding is a crappy stylist, who complains about every and anything or an egoistic one, who does not want to listen to your preferences but rather gets offended and acts defensive when asked a question or given a suggestion.
Unfortunately at my younger sister's traditional wedding, she had this pessimistic stylist. Timing was actually an issue at the wedding, cause my sister had two looks for two different outfits and little or no time to change, but this guy worsened the tension and further dampened the mood in the room, to simply put it he was a pain in the butt. This guy complained about the lack of time, the weather, the food, accommodation, and even his pay.
After considering professional expertise, personality should always be considered as a factor towards picking the right stylist/make up artist, someone who doesn't see his/her job as a way to pay the rent, rather pick the one who loves and appreciates the act of beauty, one who will not just make you up on the outside but also make you feel good on the inside with a smile, a friendly, indulgent personality and a good heart. Someone who won't turn your face into an art canvas while attempting to copy a celebrity look, rather one who with the right hair-do and make up will enhance your unique features, and highlight your true beauty.
