Dining with a long spoon

I guess most of us have heard the saying "he who sups with the devil should have a long spoon". That idiom was my reality last week.
You see I took something that never truly belonged to me. No! Don't get me wrong am not a thief, it wasn't stolen. It was voluntarily given to me yes, but for all the wrong reasons.

You how we say Osho free dey purge, it's kind of something close to that. When you accept a gift with strings attached, thats dinner with the devil and when the "generous gifter" pulls the strings and starts placing sinister demands in return for the gift then it's time to leave the dining table.

So I recently started my Errand Management Company ERS and received a cash gift from someone I respect a lot. This appreciable amount of money (000,000) would go a long way in offsetting some capital expenditures for ERS however there were strings attached.

I began to gather from snippets of conversations what the person wanted back in return for his/her generosity, something I just could not give. Comments like "a laborer deserves his wages" and "one good turn deserves another" were soon being bandied around. At that point I was done, done with the bullshit (pardon my language).

So I quickly withdrew that said amount from my account wrapped it in an envelope and sneaked it inside a bag belonging to the  gifter. I then sent him/her a phone message admitting that I didn't feel comfortable accepting the money but thanks for everything.

How did he feel? I really don't care all that matters is my salvation and piece of mind and anything that threatens that I say "back to sender".......JCOG
