Give it all up

How much are you willingly to give up for your home, your marriage?

Family: Pichette said it is time to retire because his three children are no longer living at home. He will also celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife (center) this year and said 'she deserves more'

Google CFO Patrick Pichette, 52, shared the decision to step down after a successful seven years at the company as he puts it after 30 years of non stop work he had decided to retire to spend more time with his wife who he describes as having done a marvelous job raising their three kids.
Here is a woman who married to a self admitted workaholic dedicates herself to raising her children. Best of all her husband is truly appreciative of her contribution to the home. He could have after all accompanied the retirement from Google with a divorce, and get himself a new younger wife.

Should a woman quit full time employment after marriage to create time for the home?

Some would argue that only a greedy or lazy man will let his wife continue to toil a 9am-5pm job while others would argue that in this 21st century it is barbaric to expect the woman to quit her job for the sake of marriage or the home as the case may be. Some would even define a real woman as one who can manage a successful career as well as her home.

Two questions you might want to consider before deciding who quits what job.

  1. Can either partner handle the financial responsibility of the home (such partner would have a robust and steady income). A unemployed partner has no basis to ask the other to quit his/her job.
  2. Are both partners willingly to entrust the welfare of their children to third parties as well as bear the consequence of that decision.
Can two work together except they agree............JCOG
