"The Hobbit" keeps box office crown for third week

(Reuters) - The dwarfs and elves of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" prevailed at the North American box office again over the weekend, as its $32.9 million in ticket sales topped both the star-packed musical "Les Miserables" and the western "Django Unchained."

Despite surging past "The Hobbit" on Christmas day with an $18.1 million opening, "Les Miz" managed only third place in U.S. and Canadian sales with $28 million as Christmas shoppers returned from the malls to boost Hollywood's box office, according to studio estimates.

"The Hobbit," in its third week of release, has now grossed $222.7 million domestically, Warner Bros said.

Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," a western starring Jamie Fox as a slave turned bounty hunter, took second with an impressive $30.7 million.

Family: We break up to make up

Its the holidays, and we all know that during this season , extended and nuclear families re-unite to spend time with each other, celebrating the high's and the low's of the past while looking forward to the future.  When families come together it could either turn out good, bad or ugly....... or as a matter of fact, a mixed cocktail.

Through the Christmas holidays i hosted my husband's family in my home, and it started out alright but eventually the claws came out and it got quite ugly, but as a family we stuck through the crises, mended our broken hearts and now..... it's all good. 

Anyway through the whole experience i picked up two important values that i want to share;

• Any action by a loved one (the keyword here is LOVE) which subsequently overtime still generates in you a negative reaction or resolution should be addressed one on one between you and the individual involved. Effective communication is a strong foundation for understanding, forgiveness and healing.

• Walking away might seem like the easiest option but it takes a lion heart to weather the storm and ride the waves till peace and calm is restored. Never walk away from family, they may not be there when you decide to come back.

R&B singer Brandy engaged to music executive

(Reuters) - R&B singer and actress Brandy Norwood is engaged to music executive Ryan Press, a spokeswoman for the singer said on Thursday.

This will be the first marriage for the singer, who goes by the moniker Brandy. Press is an executive with music publisher Warner/Chappell Music. A date for the wedding has not been announced publicly.

Norwood, 33, has a 10-year-old daughter with her former boyfriend, music producer Robert Smith.

Norwood has starred in numerous television and films since the 1990s and is best known as the lead character in the popular television series "Moesha" from 1996-2001 on the now-defunct channel UPN.

Body of India rape victim cremated in New Delhi

(Reuters) - The body of a woman, whose gang rape provoked protests and rare national debate about violence against women in India, arrived back in New Delhi on Sunday and was cremated at a private ceremony.

Scuffles broke out in central Delhi between police and protesters who say the government is doing too little to protect women. But the 2,000-strong rally was confined to a single area, unlike last week when protests raged up throughout the capital.

Riot police manned barricades along streets leading to India Gate war memorial - a focal point for demonstrators - and, at another gathering point - the centuries-old Jantar Mantar - protesters held banners reading "We want justice!" and "Capital punishment".

'Whitney Houston was murdered' claims private investigator

WHITNEY Houston "was murdered" according to claims by US private investigator Paul Huebl.

The Hollywood detective has allegedly uncovered evidence - including CCTV footage - that points to her being the victim of an attack by two men who were sent to collect a debt for drugs.

The troubled Bodyguard singer is said to have owed in excess of $1.5million to dangerous dealers before her shock death in Los Angeles.

Huebl makes the claims in an in-depth report for US publication the National Enquirer.

He said: “I have evidence that points to Whitney being a victim of high-powered drug dealers who sent thugs to collect a huge debt she owed for drugs.”

British actress Kate Winslet marries for third time

Oscar-winner Kate Winslet has taken another trip down the aisle, this time tying the knot with Ned Rock’nRoll, the nephew of British tycoon Richard Branson.

Winslet’s publicist Sara Keene confirmed the wedding to ABC News early Thursday morning.

“I can confirm that Kate Winslet married Ned Rock’nRoll in NY earlier this month in a private ceremony attended by her two children and a very few friends and family,” the rep told People. “The couple had been engaged since the summer.”

“Titanic” co-star Leonardo DiCaprio walked Winslet down the aisle in the secret ceremony, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail.

Ex-U.S. President George H.W. Bush in intensive care

(Reuters) - Former President George H.W. Bush, who led a coalition that ejected Iraqi forces from Kuwait in 1991, is in intensive care at a Houston hospital in "guarded condition," family spokesman Jim McGrath said Wednesday.

The 88-year-old was admitted to hospital November 23 for bronchitis.

"The president is alert and conversing with medical staff, and is surrounded by family," McGrath said in a statement.

"Following a series of setbacks including a persistent fever, President Bush was admitted to the intensive care unit at Methodist Hospital on Sunday where he remains in guarded condition," McGrath said. "Doctors at Methodist continue to be cautiously optimistic about the current course of treatment."

End Of The World 2012: Live Updates On The Mayan Apocalypse

As Dec. 21, 2012 fast approaches, doomsday-believers around the globe are bracing for what they believe will be the end of the world.

A Chinese inventor built "survival pods" to help him through the mayhem. A contractor developed underground bunkers to safeguard their Italian owners. And fare finder website Skyscanner reports its customers are showing an increasing interest in one-way tickets to "Apocalypse safe havens."

According to NASA, many Apocalypse fears originate in the belief that Niberiu, a planet allegedly discovered by the Sumerians, would hit planet Earth in May 2003. When the world did not perish, however, new claims were put forward that Nibiru would hit earth on Dec. 21, 2012 -- the day the Mayan long-count calendar ends.

NASA has gone out of its way to rebuke the doomsday fears, arguing "the world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012."

Several governments, too, have reassured their citizens that the Apocalypse is nowhere near. According to a New York Times report, Russia's minister of emergency situations Vladimir Puchkov reassured the country's citizens on Friday he is sure the world will not end in December and that "he had access to methods of monitoring what is occurring on the planet Earth.” And the Vatican's top astronomer Rev. Jose Funes wrote in the Vatican's newspaper L'Osservatore Romano that the doomsday predictions are "not even worth discussing."

Ailing Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, seeks N6m –Cries, ‘I don’t have AIDS’

A few months back, when hush-hush tales that the actress had contracted HIV/AIDS and cancer of the blood — said to be responsible for her frail looking — surfaced online, the once lively Nwosu kept mum and subsequently went underground. Many found it difficult to get the true picture.

It was not until Saturday December 15, 2012 when she appeared as a guest contestant on the popular TV game show — her first public outing since she fell ill – that her frail appearance caught the attention of many.

The actress was a recipient of the N1m that was won on the show to  aid her treatment and was assisted by entertainment journalist, Seun Oloketuyi, and fellow thespian Lillian Amah.

Narrating his encounter with her on the set of the programme, Oloketuyi said, “One of the first signs that things were no longer right with Ngozi was the fact that we had to delay recording because while everybody else was virtually fanning themselves due to the studio lights, Ngozi was shivering from cold, so much that the producers had to get her cardigans. I was flustered. When the programme eventually got underway, Ngozi still helped to answer some questions.”

4D scans show fetuses yawn in the womb

(Reuters) - Growing into a fully formed human being is a long process, and scientists have found that unborn babies not only hiccup, swallow and stretch in the womb, they yawn too.

Researchers who studied 4D scans of 15 healthy fetuses also said they think yawning is a developmental process which could potentially give doctors a new way to check on a baby's health.

While some scientists have previously suggested that fetuses yawn, others disagree and say it is nothing more than a developing baby opening and stretching its mouth.

Gold Christmas tree for a mere $4.2 million in Tokyo

(Reuters) - For those seeking a glow to their Christmas this year, a jewelry store in downtown Tokyo has just the answer: a pure gold revolving "tree" covered in Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Tinker Bell and Cinderella.

The tree-like ornament is made of 40 kg (88 pounds) of pure gold, standing about 2.4 meters (7.9 ft) high and 1.2 meters in diameter. It is decorated with pure gold plate silhouette cutouts of 50 popular Disney characters and draped with ribbons made of gold leaf.

The price tag? A mere 350 million yen ($4.2 million).

'DALLAS' STAR LARRY AGMAN Dead at 81

Actor Larry Hagman -- best known as the conniving J.R. Ewing on "Dallas" -- has died at age 81. 

Hagman died in a Dallas hospital at 4:20 pm Friday, due to complications from a recent battle with cancer ... according to local reports.

The actor's family released a statement shortly afterwards, saying "He was surrounded by loved ones when he passed. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for." 

Hagman also starred in "I Dream of Jeannie" but was most famous for playing the iconic villain J.R. in the 1980's drama "Dallas" -- and recently reprised the same role on the TNT version ... which launched earlier this year

He is survived by his two children.

Maduka vows to recover Capital Oil debt

The President, Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmos Maduka, has vowed to get back all the money allegedly owed him by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah.

Maduka, in a document made available to our correspondent on Tuesday, said, “Given the fact that I earned every kobo through my sweat, I will collect my money to the very last kobo. I vow to pursue this matter to the end.

“I and my family will fight with everything to ensure that Ubah repays all the money he owes me. God is my witness.”

Maduka claimed in the document that he entered into a joint venture business agreement with Capital Oil for the importation and sale of petrol.

The basis of the joint venture agreement was that he would provide the funding for the importation, while Capital Oil would be responsible for the importation logistics as well as handle the sale of the product.

(Reuters) - Bombs exploded in three districts of the Syrian capital Damascus on Tuesday, killing and wounding dozens, and gunmen shot dead the brother of the parliament speaker in the latest rebel attack on a figure associated with the ruling elite.

The devil would rather that his own counsel be enforced in the earth realm than have God's counsel established instead.
Our struggle with sin is basically a manifestation of the war going on between the forces of good and evil in the spirit realm where the human mind is the battle ground and consequently the medium of expression in the earth realm.
Spirit beings cannot operate on the earth without a human body and as such there is constant contention for the body of man. Your body is the divine license you have to function on earth. Without it, you cannot operate.

And so Apostle Paul says, if you want to live a victorious life and dominion over sin, you will need to take full possession and control of your mind. "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind i myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin".
What he is saying here is this, every time your focus is the flesh you serve the law of sin. When your mind is preoccupied with carnal things you become a salve to sin: you become helpless so much that even when you desire to do good, as long as you focus on the flesh, sin dominates and overpowers you.

How then do you engage your mind to serve the law of God for victory over sin then? By casting down evil imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
Occupy your mind with the knowledge of the Word of God and through obedience to God and his word, and bring every contrary imagination into the captivity. 2 Cor 10:3-6.

Nollywood distress: Actor’s leg amputated

Just as Nollywood fans heaved a sigh of relief over veteran Enebeli Elebuwa’s steady recovery from stroke-related complications, another Thespian,  Pete Eneh, famous for his ‘fatherly’ roles in Nollywood films, has had one of his legs recently amputated by doctors at Parklane Hospital, Enugu.

Eneh’s travails began last year, after he sustained an injury that later led to a serious infection, thereby making treatment near impossible.

Feelers from his doctors show that the injury degenerated to a sore, which was further compounded by the fact that the actor was diabetic. He spent three months at the hospital before he was advised to get the leg amputated to reduce the risk of the infection spreading to other parts of his body.

The amputation took place on Wednesday, October 24 after efforts to save the leg was unsuccessful. The actor, who is often cast as Patience Ozukwu aka Mama Gee’s husband in movies,  is said to be taking the situation in his stride.

Eneh’s plight brings to the fore, the worsening health condition of some Nollywood practitioners, whose circumstances are generally compounded by financial constraints.
